Blood Oranges

The Moro Blood Orange is thought to have originated during the 19th century in Sicily and brought to America in the 1930’s by Italian Immigrants.  The orange is sweet and less acidic than juicing oranges but the beautiful coloring is what makes this variety extra special in salads, drinks, or sauces.

This sought-after variety has a thinner reddish orange rind revealing a deeper purple flesh on the inside.  A variety of orange known as Citrus Sinensis, the crimson blood-colored interior offers an orange taste with hints of berries.  The unusual internal color is related to light, temperature, and this specific variety of blood orange.
